Singapore

Hi I will try to tell whatever I can about singapore, the education system and the advantages we scholars have over the others here. It will not all be in the same blog as it will be quite long like Bhagavata Mahapurana so I will write it in parts.
We Came- The day I came to singapore(18th dec i think..) I was the only one in my room meant for 5. A new place, new people with a different style of speaking and no food!! Yeah, I was so hungry after that plane journey and there was no vegetarian food for me. Because I was theonly vegetarian and the warden had overlooked the fact. We(me and the warden) went around for an hour searching and finally saw a stall. Some malayalam stall. Near the rice and curries were mutton, chicken, goat and what not. And the food was also not that good. Thankfully that evening my father(who was there on a business tour), my uncle(who had just got transferred) and my cousin(who has been living there for two years after his studies) took me and I stayed at my cousin's house for the weekend. I arrived on a friday- a fact I forgot to mention before. So sunday night I came back and that night I slept alone. It was not that bad as I was getting used to it. Monday morning early I woke up to go jogging and outside our gate is this bus parked and threee students with heavy baggage come in(allindians). They were in my room! Then the subsequents events for the next couple of days will be of very little interest except for the arrival of 3 more indians and the malaysians.
Orientation- Since we are scholars coming to singapore alone forthe first time, the Ministry of Education(hereafter referred to as MOE) organinsed orientation for us. These included us getting to know the other indian and malaysian scholars who had been posted to other schools and hostels. We were taken on a trip to sentosaand we also went on a ferry at Clarke Quay(it is a quay lining the singapore river). The ferry passes through some of the famous tourist attractions like merlion statue, hotel fullerton, the civic district(it is full of towering sky scrapers), etc. Besides these we had our orientations in schools like Victoria Junior College(it is one of the JCs to which scholars are posted to). There were many games for us, personality workshops, and briefings about the education system of singapore which I will tell about later.
The main positive which emerged from all those orientaions was that we got to know our batchmates in other JCs(junior colleges) better and that really helps when you want to have someone in other JCs to talk to about the studies there, their life,etc...
Ragging- Here comes the part which I am sure yall will enjoy the most...........
but.. you will have to wait till the next time I come to the computer cause I have my class now. I am writing from school.
Ragging was a part which I enjoyed a lot and you know about me. These asked me to dance and me....Rmember school and Hips don't lie??? They were like this!! It was so enjoyable.
Next time I will tell what all we had to do as part of our ragging, where we had to do, how the seniors enjoyed it, etc.
Till then,Bye
Keep writin

Another year has ................

When I think I'm reminded of Albus Dumbledore's words.........."Another year has passed by", for the good and for the bad you tell. So many things happened 2006-07 which have made me a whole new person.

Ofcourse, I also got the opportunity to make many great friends, meet wonderful people who have completely impacted my life.. Now, we are the oldest - haha Welcome to class 12 Ps'ites and I hope we get the Annual Results soon.

And ofcourse trust our school's generosity to give one whole day off.. This is why I really love P.S.

Happy Birthday Vikku!!

Comeback

Hi, its nice to be back writing( Iwrote only 3-4 posts) earlier but still its good to know that you are back in the priory of seniors. I feel that the title of this blog will-from march onwards- be extremely apt for you guys as you will then be the genuine seniors of PS! Find it thrilling to be called as the seniors of one of the best schools in tamil nadu? How is the tussle going on between vikku and GV for the post of cultural sec. of PS? (it was between GV and vikku right?)
Nowadays do the mokkais of srini still poke your ears or do they just brush them giving a waft of their scent and continue to go on their journey in looking for a hapless victim still unaaware of his prowess?!! How are rakesh, prasad, GV doing at the top of 11A? Are they still maintaing that competetion or have they diverged to their respective settled spots? Write more.
Bye

chem exam... :'(

the smiley in the title says it all. when i left my house this morning, i wondered, despite all my horrible horrible HORRIBLE preparation (yes its all my fault but i barely knew what to read in chem) i mean, "what could be the worst paper that can come my way?"
and then
....
i saw set 3 of chem paper Class XI
DEAR DEAR LORD!
yesterday, when i was tryin to read p block, i kept going thru thr pages an wondering.. when did she teach all this? this unfortunately happened for several iof the chapters in several of the places. at certain points of time, i decided to jus give up on some topics sincei couldnt make head or tail of it!!
to
quote shridhar, "the paper was lousy and i made it even lousier."
we have those fisrt 15 mins right.. i keep going thru the questions, and all i can do is look like this --- O____O
well anyway, thats one subject down.. and 4 to go.
may we all survive this week.

err...EXAMS...

ha...bliss.

my accounts exam went as expected.

hook,line and sinker.

i ambled to school, calmly ignoring the nervous and excited chatter around me that emanated from the enlightened souls who actually CARED about their marks.

i would like to claim, again, that my uniqueness is unmatched.

today was a day of silence. silence when i looked at the answer paper. silent cursing on my part because of the mouth ulcer thats holding back my witty wisecracks.

ye all, fear not, lakshmi will come back with a vengeance!

hail me! hail my intellegence!

hail...hardwork.

oh no.

of course,i am getting ahead of myself.

when i saw the paper my arrogance gently prodded me and told me that it was simple and when have i messed up anything simple?

i attacked the first sum. everything went as planned and i was planning to finish the sum with a flourish when i ...gulp...realised i had missed the crux of the problem.

hail murphy!
you really knew what you were talking about, fella.

slash! went my pen...i went at it with a kind of a dogged determination.

after half an hour of copious pencil chewing,i arrived at AN answer.

whether it is the right one remains to be seen.

halfway through,mr.ramu came to invigilate.

woo hoo. this was turning out to be just what i needed.

mr.ramu and i have never gotten along during the best of times and today was definitely not a day i was to be messed with.

his sole mode of amusement the whole time was to pick on me. a snide comment. a sarcastic grin.usually,i reciprocate pretty darn well, but i was quite anxious to do atleast some sums right,so i refrained.

with a depleted opponent egging him on,he walked around pushing up my exam pad the everytime and generally shouting instructions to the class while standing next to me,which interrupted my minimal concentration and wrecked what little progress i had made.

to top it off,i discovered, after giving in my paper that i had forgotten to write a 5 mark question that was by far the easiest thing in the whole paper.

whatever.it was little consolation that everyone's answers were just as bad.

but ice cream ,the time tested formula for cheering me up,worked its magic this time around too and i sauntered home, savouring the chocolatey taste in my mouth.

oh well, there is always a next time.

All the best...

So after a tough post, here's a much lighter one...
The tradition of mine is back on Priory, Wish you'll an enjoyable exam week and All the best for your exams....
And comin to the hot topic of Chem right now, Andy is decent but when you've got great teachers like Lalitha miss and teaching demi-gods like Sundari miss around ,it makes you feel bad. I had been to Vijeyendran's house to play a game of cricket and there gave him a few "tough" conversions to do..
And god, he had them at his fingertips... And for 11A guys to understand, man he would have beat Rakesh by a mile in his speed... Definitely...
Jus hope Andi does all chapters next year like she did ionic equilibrium this year so that we have at least a decent run in class 12.
And to think that we'll be seniors in another week or so is great. But sadly this is the last year for us at PS. We are going to have great fun. Vikku, another planner in this blog must also be having ideas for the next year. We can make it brilliant.
Anyways before everything lets do our exams well.
All the best.
Blog soon,
luv n regards,
gv.

Chem == Deadmeat!

My worst nightmare is just approaching, Chem exam on Wednesday and here I am blogging. I must be going nuts but that's me. I have been very happy in P.S from June and have never contemplated my decision of joining here but one thing that really makes me regret not taking IP and ending up in D Section is well, you know what I'm talking about.

"Teacher Maketh a Student" is one thing I firmly believe. The aptitude and thinking you develop in any subject is due to your teacher and If I'm anything today in Maths and especially physics, it is thanks to KK sir. Quoting an example, I actually used to like Bio in 8th cept for the fact that I can't draw to save my own life, nevertheless.... We had a teacher in 10th Who took genetics (by far the most interesting lesson ever in bio) worse than civics and well, the result is what you see today.

My aptitude for chemistry, which is a highly interesting subject is becoming worse, and I can't seem to visualize the easiest of facts, something I have no probs in others subjects and last minute cramming of Pradeeps does no good, and IIT chem is not going in school order, to add to my woes. Feeling highly depressed in this aspect. XI B has got Lalitha Maam who is great and XID, Sundari Miss is GODLY, that one class of inert pair effect was TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE, will never forget that. And good 'ol XI A gets, well.... Okay, Andy is a good person at heart and not a so-terrible teacher but the class makes it worse, you need silence to visualize, listen & not pradeeps.

There was for a teensy weensy moment a chance that the anti-socials will be chucked out and we might get sundari miss but that too is down the drain. I'm really praying for a miracle to save me next year cause in 12th we can't OP as much as in 11th. :(( I really prayed for Sundari miss to save XI A but that seems highly unlikely as the latest industry rumors say that D & B will get her and A will continue on it's glorious path.. 3 Cheers to Andy miss.....

May the force, the bling and the YAMM be with you!!

P.S:: I'm a vegetarian but after I become deadmeat, pls cut me up into pieces and distribute to everybody.. Though I might not provide much meat. ;)

serenity...

well, things seem quite hyped up, what with that intense post just before mine. this is a bit of tense time for all of us actually, what with being in the mid of our prac exams (im scared of phy pracs :( )
so it wud be nice if all of us could take a moment to relax.. take a deep breath.. calm down..and move on with everything. thats exactly what i did. as some of u may know, i love photography and so i went up to my terrace today (was supposed to be studying chem but hey, this relaxed me no end) i saw the most beautiful clouds and surroundings.. i cant actually see the sunset itself but seeing the clouds change colour was amazing. thought i should share this awesome moment i experienced with all of you... its truly peaceful and beautiful.
all photography is my own, taken with my digicam. kudos to me :D
please visit my photobucket album if you like these. a link will be there at the end of this post, and is anyway present in my orkut profile under "My Webpage:"

here is wat i saw.. the most calming sight to unrestful minds..an elixer in its own right..providing a lot of peace and serenity..nature's superb sights..

click on the picture for a full view in a new window.

truly amazing isnt it?
you can visit http://s129.photobucket.com/albums/p212/cherry173/for more such pictures and various greenery and some nice shots which i took in and around my house.
please dont call me a tree hugging nut, i know im one. i luv plants and yes, green is my fav colour i'll be really happy if you likes these images as much as i do, considering i havent really displayed my photography till now. this was truly a wonderful moment and i had to share it with you all.

Pracs fine....

So the science is midway through its practicals and this time the practicals aren't seeming to be the nightmare they were during the half yearly... Life's good when teachers tell you that you've done a good job.
But the week gained momentum only on Tuesday when Sharan and company were on duty dristibuting anti-school pamphlets in many schools across the city..This was a bit too much.
And some words he used on orkut against teachers made me all the more furious. What right does that bloody b******* have to use words against people who were his teachers in the previous years. What right does that donkey have to demand seats which he calls "rightfully" his in PS?? He won't score marks in school. He doesn't have the attitude to work, or to set anything right in any situation. He has to be taught to respect his own teachers. He doesn't want to work. He hasn't done anything what the school has asked him to, but he alone wants a seat.Ungrateful wretch.
Since there are evidences against him strong in the princi's hands , that f***** won't be able to do anything...
PS rocks. Mrs. Vijayalakshmi Srivatsan is the best...
And anyone who tries to rebel against his/her school which has been a house for him/her all these years, the Almighty would not spare that wretch...
And I'm sorry for the derogatory language used, coz this is used so I could use my feelings against Sharan just in case he sees this...
Thankin you'll,
with lots of luv,
urs forever,
gv.

Back to Priory..

The man with the maximum number of posts so far in Priory is back finally...Chappli. With a renewed confidence ,happiness that my blogger password won't create problems again.
So class 11 is drawing to a close. The last two days produced just total of 47 people coming to class 11A excluding the teachers and other class students though.
So stories are on that classes are going to be shuffled to enforce more discipline into this batch. And stories from UV and LS are no new to us. Let them do what they want.We have to accept something they want to do.So it is of least concern to me, let them do what they want to.
The exams are going to get over and then it'll be gala time for three more months.
So do the exams well n have a great time ....
We'll meet soon .. I'm back to bloggin .
Lots of luv,
urs forever,
gv.

Exams coming up...

Once again, the academic year approaches it's end... and once, I'm really happy. 11th was not a year I enjoyed, and thank god it's over.
Exams start on 21st and end on 27th, I heard.
Assuming 20th is a holiday, I made a rough outline on how the time table would look like, taking into consideration that our school might give us holidays for Physics, Chemistry and Maths.

20th - study holiday
21st - Either of P/C/M
22nd - English/Elective
23rd - Holiday
24th - M/P/C
25th - SUNDAY!
26th - M/P/C
27th - English/Elective

I call this as our time table...

Chemistry/English/Physics/Maths/Elective

In any case, going by that, I will be spending my LAST EVER BIRTHDAY in school writing either English or (I hope) SEE PLUS PLUS!!!! :D Unless there's a board practical exam next year which HAPPENS to fall on 27th...

Amogh's coming to visit in March later on...

11th had been a very mediocre year at it's best, and here's my top list for 11th...

1) Ramu sir as class teacher
2) 11 A winning Reniassance
3) UV actually knowing my name (I'm honoured)
4) Getting 17 in PHYSICS (after a series of 12.5, 9, 6, 6, 7)
5) Organizing the farewell
6) The bench currently in 11 D which bears the trademark of Zombie and I
7) D DRIVE!!! ;)

And by elimination method, I have come to the conclusion that 12 A's class and maths teacher will be RP..
cause we have RR, RP, Padmashri miss and Sivaku sir as class techers

12 C - Padmashri miss by default
12 B - Sivakumar sir (though he will eventually take Phy for 12 D too)
12 D - RR
12 A - none other than RP

From what Paddy man told me, RP gave 12 A long ago homework TWICE in their entire 2 years. And nobody bothered to finish it. She gave up.

I have nothing more to say... I need to start studying for the exams!!!
Best of luck to all!
-Vikku

the miracle workers

well,i am happy to be the one who will contradict that extremely gloomy post by shreyas,in which his fears of the farewell party being something on the lines of the sesame street turned out to be baseless ones.

IT WAS A BIG HIT.

the whole day,our seniors were coming up to me and telling me how much they enjoyed that absolutely marvellous party thrown by us.

poor them.they must be starved for some fun that even the sedate party that we organized must have seemed like a wild, crazy,REAL party.

this post will have no negativity whatsoever.

we pulled off a GREAT party.

and in reality,WE ROCK.

i only hope we have a farewell that's as good,if not better.

again,three cheers to us!!
