My favourite wrestlers:
You may be thinking, this is exam time after all, and is this guy nuts, writing about some dabba WWE wrestlers? Actually it's WWE Superstars (tm) not wrestlers, since WWE is sports entertainment and not pure sports.
Plus, this is my blog, and this post is a way of showing that it is... :D
My favourite 15 (actually 16 since 16 is a nice square number, and a multiple of 4, my lucky number)
16) Rob Van Dam
He's one guy I like purely for his athletic skills... which is rare since I like the "entertainment" bit and surely not the "sports" part of it. His "educated feet" as JR would call it, and his unorthodox style of wrestling made me a fan. At times his 5 star frog splash can get a little repetitive, but he sure as hell is entertaining enough. Plus, he's one of my favourite opponents on any SD! game.
Match: RVD/Shane/Kurt/Austin/Booker (wCw) vs. Rock/Show/Kane/Taker/Jericho (WWF) (Survivor Series 2001)
15) Johnny Nitro
He's an up and coming superstar who I'm becoming fond of day by day. He was cool with MNM, and cooler as the IC champ. If he can do a Standing Shooting Star Press from the ground, he's cool enough for me.
Match: Johnny Nitro vs. Carlito vs. Benjamin (Vengeance 2006)
14) Ric Flair
The man, the legend, Ric Flair! WOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! He's probably the only old guy in this list, and that's saying something. He's really funny and nothing gets funnier than a old man Flair Flop! WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! To be the man, you gotta beat the man! He's also the dirtiest player in the game, which makes me like him better!
Match: Ric Flair vs. Triple H (Raw 2003)
13) JBL
If you had asked me who Bradshaw was, I would'nt have given a damn, but JBL is altogether a different character. One of the most effective heels (heel=bad guy, for those ignorant fools who know not the ways of WWE) in recent times. Plus, him on commentary = gold!
Match: JBL vs. Show vs. Angle (Royal Rumble 2005)
12) Batista
Another new and upcoming superstar, who I guess is the only new one not so young enough. Hell, he's older than HHH and that's a lot. He's got the style, and reminds me of a Rock, just not able to keep up with the mic. For a big man, he's surely athletic.
Match: Batista/Triple H/Orton/Flair vs. Foley/Benjamin/Benoit/HBK (Raw 2004)
11) Edge
Had it not been for the Matt-Lita-Edge issue, Edge would've been in my top 5. I don't know why, but I had this huge liking for Edge in early 2003, sad that he got injured. His return wasn't so good, but his Rated R'ness brought his popularity up. Raw sex live on Raw boosts up ratings too...
Match: Edge vs. Benoit vs. Triple H (Raw 2004)
10) Carlito Caribbean Cool
Yet another young new guy I'm fond of. To sum him up in one word, he's COOL! He's damn athletic too, and he's one of the very few guys good both on the mic and in the ring. Too bad the WWE cuts his moveset a lot. Carlito doing springboard moonsault, now das' cool!
Match: Carlito vs. Benjamin (Raw 2006)
9) Shelton Benjamin
The second guy on my list based purely on athleticism. Is there nothing Benjamin can't do? He's SPIDERMAN for God's sake. In the Money In The Bank 2 ladder match, he springboarded off the ropes and stuck to a ladder (YES IT WILL STUCK!) and there's no stopping him. Like RVD, he's one of my favourite guys to play with on any SD! game, just for the sheer variety of moves he offers.
Match: Benjamin vs. RVD (Backlash 2006)
8) Randy Orton
What can I say, he's the LEGEND KILLER! He's so awesome, got a great theme song, and a great pose. Plus he was Stacy Keibler's on-air boyfriend. :D He's got this air of charisma around him that makes me an instant fan! He's like the next The Rock and to cement that, he must beat The Rock in a Legend vs. Legend Killer match.
Match: Randy Orton/Batista/Flair vs. The Rock 'n' Sock Connection (Wrestlemania 20)
7) John Cena
Like Orton he's the next Steve Austin. Despite his unpopularity among Internet fans, I'm proud to say I'm a Chain Gang soldier! His raps are used to be funny, but the WWE trimmed him down. I can't wait to see the day Austin and Cena step inside the ring the same time.
Match: Cena/Benoit/Holly/Angle/Bradshaw vs. A-Train/Jones/Morgan/Show/Lesnar (Survivor Series 2004)
6) Christian
Captain Charisma, the leader of the Christian-Coalition, the head of the Peepulation, the man who's made up of 200% charisma. I didn't like him at first, but after The Rock's timely advice, Christian became a superstar, and added to that, he got a really cool entrance music as well. Too bad he quit the WWE.
Match: Christian vs. Benjamin (Survivor Series 2004)
5) The Rock
He is the most electrifying, loud, pie-eating, eyebrow-raising, trail-blazing, faster than a cheetah, stronger than a buck, hottest thing to hit Canada cause the Maple leaf sucks (no offense Canadians). No one can cut the type of promo that The Rock cuts. His mic skills are AWESOME! Nothing cheers me up more than The Rock's pre-match shenanigins.
Match: The Rock vs. Steve Austin (WM 15, WM 17, WM 19)
3) Jeff Hardy/Matt Hardy
It's so hard to pick one Hardy over the other. So, they tie 3rd place, leaving no 4th place (u_u). They're separately good, and collectively better. Version 1's Mattitude gimmick was one of the coolest gimmicks. Hell ANDI throws the V1 symbol! Oh and there's no need to talk about what Jeff does. Dip his head in paint, climb a 50 feet ladder and jump onto a few tables.
Match:
Matt: Matt Hardy vs. The Undertaker (No Holds Barred) (SD! 2002)
Jeff: Jeff Hardy vs. The Undertaker (Ladder) (Raw 2002)
2) Chris Jericho
For some reason, I used to hate this guy, but later, when he revealed he admired HBK, I admired him! He's basically a clone of HBK with his own little added benefits. For one, he's the king of the world dammit! The larger than life, king of bling bling, Chris Jericho, baby!!!
Match: Jericho/HBK vs. Flair/Batista (Raw 2004)
1) Shawn Michaels
My absolute favourite, Shawn Michaels. The Heartbreak Kid, the leader of D-Generation X. God's gift to women. The Showstopper. The Icon. Words can't describe HBK's greatness. I liked him before I knew what WWE was! I hope you understand how much I respect and idolize this man.
Match: HBK vs. Triple H vs. Kane vs. Booker T vs. RVD vs. Jericho (Survivor Series 2002)
That's it folks, and with that, I dedicate this post to Sandeep, the only one who'd probably read this.
